Called home to be one with the Lord, Sondra Lullene Locke, 75, passed away peacefully on May 3, 2018, at St. Mary’s Hospital. Sondra, the eldest of 7 children, was born on November 17, 1942, in St Louis, Mo, to William Clay and Velma Lullene (Taylor) Locke. Sondra along with her siblings and father were baptized at St. Henry’s Catholic Church in 1953.

After graduating from St. Mary’s Hospital School of Radiology, Sondra worked 46 years as a Radiologic Technologist, retiring in 2008.

Sondra was known by her family and friends as being very caring and loyal.   A true mentor and friend for all seasons to many. Being the oldest child, one of her responsibilities was looking after her younger siblings, giving her a real sense of nurturing that would be carried over into her adulthood. Even though Sondra never had any children of her own, she was endeared as “Aunt Sondra” to many who were not biologically related, yet were very much family to her.

Sondra enjoyed and respected life, never taking it for granted. She had an affinity for butterflies and their significance; the butterfly representing resurrection-flying free into a glorious new life unencumbered by sin, failings and pain.

Sondra was faith-filled and often spoke of God’s presence in her life. From the onset of Sondra’s illness, her theme song was the “Presence of the Lord” and each day as it became more difficult for her, the presence of her God grew stronger, and finally on that designated day, she accepted his invitation of peace, the peace that is beyond all understanding.

Sondra was preceded in death by her father and mother, sisters-in-law, Karen Locke and Anna Koopman-Locke. She is survived by her siblings, Phillipe Locke of Amsterdam, Netherlands; Lawrence Locke, Kenneth Locke, St. Louis; Craig Locke, Miami, Fl; Wilma Locke of St. Louis and Sister Audrey Locke, OSF, of Savannah, Mo; aunt, Lois Herron, East St. Louis, Ill; nephews, Rene Koopman, Justin Locke, Steven Locke; niece, Arika Locke; great nephew, Jacob Clay Locke; and a host of cousins, and dear friends.
